Retrograde motion is an apparent reversal caused by the relative movement of Earth and another planet. In a natal chart it suggests a function that may be processed more internally or revised repeatedly.

What retrograde does—and does not—mean

A retrograde planet is not broken, weaker or cursed. Its expression may be less conventional, more reflective or slower to become outwardly confident.

Natal retrogrades

Mercury retrograde can emphasize revision and an individual thinking process; Venus may internalize questions of value; Mars may require a personal route toward assertion. The whole chart decides expression.

Natal versus transiting retrograde

A natal retrograde is a lifelong chart condition. A transiting retrograde is a temporary phase in the current sky. They should not be interpreted as the same thing.

Read patterns, not labelsA useful interpretation connects this topic with the rest of both the natal chart and lived experience.
